Barceloneta

The neighborhood

Barceloneta (Little Barcelona) was originally a fishermen’s village where these days, it can almost feel as if time has stood still. This residential area has a very local feel and is characterised by its grid of narrow streets of terraced buildings.

The lifestyle

The main street, Passeig Joan de Borbo, has a direct view of the yachting marina and is a great place to sit and enjoy the sun.  If you venture into the narrow streets behind, you will stumble upon the Mercat de Barceloneta, a  traditional Catalan market where you can buy fresh meat, fish, fruits and vegetables. There are also numerous  tapas bars and restaurants which serve up some great seafood dishes, as you would expect being right next to the sea. The long sandy beach is the closest beach to the city centre and a favourite for tourists in the summer months. If you are a fitness addict, the sea-front promenade is the perfect place for jogging, roller blading and cycling. A relaxed lifestyle with a beach vibe.

The verdict

A mix of expats and older Spanish residents gives this neighbourhood a unique charm and warm mix of cultures.
