The neighborhood
The Vila Olímpica neighbouhood used to be an undeveloped zone of seafronts and docks, until it was transformed by the 1992 Olympic Games into a smart, fashionable, modern residential area. Most of the buildings have been constructed within the last twenty years, a stark contrast to the older parts of the city, so there are lots of facilities including its popular beach, an indoor mall, car parking and extensive community parks and gardens.
The lifestyle
The sea- front promenade continues all along the coast, making it the perfect place for a stroll anytime of the year. You will find some of the city’s most lively restaurants and lounge clubs a short walk away along the beach if you want to party. There is also a shopping centre where film buff´s can find the largest English cinema complex in Barcelona. The area has great transport links to the city centre by bus and metro and easy access to the motorway. You can always find your way home after a long night out by looking for the “twin towers” of Barcelona; the Hotel Arts and Torre Mapfre, the two tallest buildings in the whole city.
The verdict
Vila Olimpica has a mix of local and expat professionals, and families. It is a calm area to live, close enough to the city to feel part of it, but just far enough away to escape the chaos.
